What is a chain sprocket?

A sprocket is a sturdy metal wheel with evenly spaced teeth that engage chains, which is an important part of chain transmission, transmits power, changes torque and speed, and achieves motion synchronization.

What is a sprocket used for?

Sprockets usually work with various chains. Chain transmission is a conventional method that uses the meshing of chains and sprocket teeth to transmit power and motion. Sprockets are used in the chemical industry, textile machinery, agricultural machinery, oil industry, mining machinery, forestry machinery, and other power transport systems.

What are the advantages of a sprocket?

1. Simple structure, small size, light weight, can realize the maxim transmission ratio.

2. Low price, easy to manufacture and install, can meet most power transmit needs.

3. Strong loading bearing, long service life, and simple maintenance, suitable for harsh working conditions.

4. Well meshing, low noise, low vibration, can ensure smooth operation.

What are the differences between the sprocket and gear?

Sprockets and gears are both important transmission parts, there are several differences.

1. Transport methods: the gear transmission achieved through teeth meshing of two gears, while those of sprockets achieved through chains.

2. The sprocket can only achieve transmission between parallel axes, but the gears can work between parallel axes and any staggered axes.

3. Sprockets can enable long distance transmission, while gear transmission is compact.

4. The machining accuracy and installation costs of gears are higher than those of sprockets.

How to divide chain sprockets?

1. According to hub types:

A-hub sprocket, with no hub on either side of the plate.

B-hub sprocket, has a hub on one side.

C-hub sprocket, has hubs of both sides and equal thickness.

2. According to manufacturing methods, welding sprocket, forged sprocket, and casting sprocket, etc.

How to choose the proper sprocket?

1. Confirm the number of sprocket teeth according to the transmission ratio.

2. Confirm the sprocket type according to the chain pitch.

3. Confirm the tension sprocket and tension methods according to the length and installation of chains.

How to maintain a sprocket?

1. Keep the appropriate tightness of the sprocket.

2. There is no swing or skew when sprocket installed on the shaft.

3. Replace the sprocket and chains, when sprocket or chains are severely worn.

4. When the conveyor chain is too long or stretched after use, remove chain links depending on the situation, and keep the chain links an even number.

5. The sprocket/ chain links should be lubricated in time, which can improve the working conditions and reduce wear.

6. New/old sprockets can not be mixed. Mixing sprockets will increase wear.

SHINING provides several types of large sprockets, most are used in the mining industry, cement industry, sugar refinery and steel mills, etc. Using a right sprocket is just as important as choosing the right chains.
