SHINING supplies conveyor chains for wood processing - engineered to withstand moisture, sap and chip abrasion. From log decks to planer lines, our chains deliver smooth conveyance in challenging, chip-heavy environments and reduce maintenance needs across sawmills and planing mills.

1. The Challenge in Wood Processing

  • Moisture and sap attack: green lumber, washdown and preservatives corrode unprotected steel surfaces.

  • Abrasive debris: chips, bark and sawdust pack joints and grind working parts.

  • Impact at the log deck: logs are dropped, turned and driven - chains must take repeated shock loads.

  • Positive grip required: smooth plates slip; the chain must bite into logs and cants on decks and inclines.

  • Surface quality matters: finished lumber and panels must not be marked by the conveying chain.

2. How SHINING Solves It

A build for every duty level

The welded narrow series runs from WR (thru-hardened rivets) to WH (all parts thru-hardened) to WHX (induction-hardened rivets), with WRC and WHC straight-sidebar builds and XHD heavy builds on the same pitch - so the duty is matched without changing the drive.

The 81X family: one pitch, three strengths

On the common 66.27 mm pitch, 81X carries 106.7 kN minimum tensile, 81XH 151.9 kN and 81XHH 191.1 kN. Chains are pre-stretched and length-measured over 19 links, so they mesh cleanly from the first installation.

Sharp top and attachments for positive grip

Sharp top teeth - in welded or roller chain builds, including stainless steel - grip logs and strip bark. Lugs, cradles and fixtures are fitted to customer drawings; attachment dimensions are quoted per requirement.

Stainless and polymeric options for wet service

Stainless steel sharp top chains and short-pitch stainless chains with K2 attachments take on damp, sap-bearing sections; chains with engineering plastic rollers protect finished surfaces and run quietly where marking must be avoided.

Chain and sprocket engineered as one system

Matching sprockets for the WH series and the 81X family are produced in the same works, so chain, sprockets and wear parts arrive as one matched system.

FAQs about

Which chain should I use on a log deck?

For log decks we recommend sharp top welded builds - single or multi-strand - or the 81XHH where loads are heaviest. Send us the log size range and deck layout and our engineers will confirm the build and attachment spacing.

What is the difference between 81X, 81XH and 81XHH?

All three share the 66.27 mm pitch, 23.00 mm roller and 11.10 mm pin. They differ in plate depth, section and pin length: minimum tensile is 106.7 kN for 81X, 151.9 kN for 81XH and 191.1 kN for 81XHH. Sprockets are common across the family.

Can you match the chain already running in our mill?

Yes. We build to interchange: send the OEM part number, an old link or a drawing and we will confirm the build and quote the matching chain and sprockets.

Do you also supply sprockets?

Yes. Matching sprockets for the WH welded series and the 81X family are produced in the same works, delivered as one matched system with the chain.

What are your MOQ and lead time?

MOQ is 100 m and standard production lead time is 60 days from order and drawing confirmation. Inquiries are answered within 24 hours.

Which chain suits wet, sap-bearing lumber?

For wet or sap-heavy sections we offer stainless steel sharp tooth chains and short-pitch stainless chains with K2 attachments. In highly corrosive conditions our engineers will review the chemistry before recommending the build.
