A leading Southeast Asian producer of edible oils and specialty chemicals faced a persistent challenge in their refining process: conveying Bleaching Earth (Activated Clay). This fine powder, essential for decolorizing and purifying edible oils, is highly adhesive. Their existing conveyor system suffered from severe material buildup on the scrapers, leading to:

The standard solution of chains with metal or UHMW-PE scrapers was not optimal due to adhesion and cleanability issues. Our answer was a custom-configured P100 Metric Conveyor Chain with Integrated Teflon® (PTFE) Scraper Plates.

  • Why PTFE Over Other Polymers? For this application, the unique properties of PTFE were critical:

  • Superior Non-Stick Performance: PTFE has the lowest coefficient of friction of any solid material, ensuring near-total release of the sticky bleaching earth.

  • Excellent Chemical Inertness: It is virtually unaffected by the bleaching earth and other process chemicals, ensuring longevity and product purity.

  • Easy-Clean, Hygienic Surface: Its non-porous, smooth surface prevents material embedding and allows for rapid, thorough clean-downs.

  • Robust Core Construction: The innovative scrapers are integrated into a reliable P100-pitch (W338 style) engineering roller chain. Key components are made from alloy steels (40Mn, 20Cr, 40Cr) and precision heat-treated to achieve an optimal balance of strength and wear resistance, guaranteeing a minimum Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS) of 80 kN.
