Sprockets machining process

Sprockets are widely used in industrial, agricultural, army, medical, technology fields, playing an important role in industries. Sprocket transmission has its features: the gap between the shaft and the sprocket is big, transfer rate is stable, high shock absorption, suitable for harsh operating environment. But shortcomings are: uneven speed, stability less than belt transmission when high speed, when chains wear and tear, easy to get resonance.


The first step is forging, directly cutting the bars causes material waste, to increase the rational use of surplus materials, usually we will forge the material to get a blank. Forging is a physical change, changing the material shape to get the blank, when the weight is constant. This process method saves time, effort and materials.


SprocketsWhen hole surface processing, we priority work on the datum plane, based on this plane, machining other planes, then hole processing. Using the datum plane to fix the processing position, it is helpful to improve the hole machining accuracy. It also helps to extend the end mill service life.


Roughing is mainly working for subtracting the most of the allowance of each part, it is the basis for precision work. When cutting the sprocket blank, the center of the outer circle and the inner hole should be consistent.


Precision machining is mainly to ensure the size, shape accuracy and surface roughness. It is a critical step. When machining, we should check whether the end mill is sharp, end mill is aligned, the working surface is rubbing against the sprocket.


Heat treatment includes heating, insulation, cooling, sometimes there is only heating and cooling. Please pay attention when sprocket quenching, when the inner hole close to the quenched,which may cause the diameter get bigger. Before quenching, complete the hole machining, otherwise the hardness will increase and difficult to tap.


Keyway broaching after quenching, due to the increasing hardness, requires a small number of repeated operations. When broaching, in order to prevent the tool broken, the broaching teeth temperature is too high to become dull, which affects the keyway effect. Before and after processing, the product should be placed in the coolant to reduce the temperature of the broach.


Inspecting is the last step before exporting. Engineers use professional equipment to check the dimension accuracy, hardness, strength, and provide the product report.
